As the best man, one of your most important duties, apart from keeping the ring safe, is to deliver a killer best man speech! If there is no Wedding MC, the best man normally fulfill his duties as well. Let’s have a closer look at a sample wedding reception program. You can easily adapt this program to fit in with the style and atmosphere of the wedding! This is merely a guide to help you with the flow of events and to ensure it goes without any hiccups.
Normally the wedding planner briefs all involved on exactly what and when they are due to deliver certain duties. If the couple is planning their own wedding they will probably arrange a get together of all involved, so that they can make sure everyone now what is expected from them and how to go about it. This will ensure the wedding reception flows easily and fluently and you’ll know exactly what you have to do! But just to show them you want to be informed and don’t appear to be totally clueless have a look at this sample wedding reception order and what is normally the duties of the best man.
So. without further ado, let’s get rolling!
Announcement of the Bridal Party – The Wedding MC or Best Man announce the arrival of the bridal couple with the Wedding DJ playing to appropriate music to welcome them at the reception.
Wedding Speech Galore – First of all, the father of the bride welcomes all the guests and deliver his speech. He then introduce the best man who traditionally roast the groom with all the trimmings attached. You as the best man then introduce the groom to deliver his speech.
Announce the Big Feast- After some mingling and giving the guests time to settle – the MC of Best Man announces that the food is about to be served.
Announce the First Dance- The Wedding MC, Best Man or Wedding DJ announce the couple’s first dance. Then invite the guests to join them. If you’re in charge of delegating what music the couple wants to play, make sure the DJ knows when he must play which songs. I’ve seen a bride storming out of the reception because the DJ got the song for the first dance wrong!
Announce the Cutting of the Cake- Once again the MC or Best Man announces the cutting of the wedding cake and let the photographer do his thing! Make sure you alert the wedding photographer beforehand so that he is ready to take some pics.
